Highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 50s

This is pretty normal on the coast of Northern California this time of year. In addition to low 60s  and low 50s it has been misting a lot too.

However, the misting is really good for the coastal forests of pine, redwoods, oaks and ferns etc. So, this is why we have such beautiful coastal forests here too. Mostly the wind always blows (most of the time from off the Pacific Ocean so this also means that normally the air is clear and without Any smog of any kind except when there are fires and strange wind conditions. There haven't been any fires like that this year so far at least. But, those kinds of fires are usually (if they happen) in August, September or October anyway.

My son moved more than the distance between here and Portland which means likely I won't be driving there by myself. (My wife is at a point where usually she wants to fly if it is that far or further) unless we are taking a lot of people with us.

I have really missed my son because he is in his late 30s and divorced. But, moving away from here has been good for him in a new career with a new girlfriend. But, bad for me personally because once again I'm always surrounded by women. Don't get me wrong. I really like women but they are always like another species from men and you always have to speak to them much differently than you do to men for a variety of reasons. On top of that, my 17 year old daughter is always giving me grief because I don't act like a 17 year old prep school girl in her way of thinking. So, the rugged individualist I was trained to be growing up is way too impolite for her prep school sensibilities. However, then there are the spiders that my wife and daughter shriek at that I either have to rescue and put outside or if they are something poisonous like black widows or Brown recluse spiders I have to kill. I sometimes leave the daddy long legs spiders because their jaws can't pierce human skin. Since they actually are the most poisonous spider in the U.S. humans would be extinct here if they could bite through human skin. But, I often leave daddy long legs spiders because they kill all the other spiders in the house so we don't get any spider bites as a result.

So, even though walking around in my underwear always gets me yelled at by my daughter which always makes my wife laugh. But, what is weird for me is I used to live in houses in college where absolutely everyone walked around naked most of the time. It was sort of "If you've got it flaunt it!" back then. So, I have no idea how I got a daughter who is so prudish about all this. So, it's sort of a pain for me. I didn't really want her to go to a prep school either but I realized my wife and daughter would be impossible to convince otherwise. So, the first Christian prep school I disapproved of turned my daughter into an atheist (I sort of saw this coming but who listens to me?) And then the next secular prep school turned her into a cosmopolitan intellectual and world traveler who has now been with her school to France and Spain and Japan. I have been to France and Japan but not Spain yet. But this was her first visit to Japan on Spring Break this year.

So, I'm really missing my son and sort of feeling forlorn and ready for another trip out to where it's sunny and nice (even if it is at or near 100 degrees Fahrenheit). At least I get to see the sun in the summertime (After all I grew up in Glendale from ages 8 to 21 where 110 degrees or more was expected for at least August and sometimes September sometimes. So, even though I don't miss the above 100 degree headaches and heat prostration that I had a couple of times when still under 30 I do miss the sun and the warmth during the summers as Mark Twain described as "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco".
