What I mean by staying active I suppose depends upon how old you are and what kind of physical condition you are in right now.
I have noticed that my friends who don't exercise at all congenitally, tend to die by ages 60 through 65 if they have normal health. So, people who live to 90 and beyond both have the genetics for it and also stay active.
Staying active at my present age means doing gardening and puttering around the house at 65, traveling whenever I need to on business or pleasure and usually both.
But it also means watching my diet (not eating gluten has completely eliminated all wheat pastas including most pizzas and all wheat breads). Though this is sometimes difficult at restaurants I would rather be alive after finding out I was allergic to gluten in March 2013.
But, it also means walking my dogs almost every day 1 mile or more, lifting weights above my head of 50 pounds or more many times and taking cardio rides on my bicycle uphill to get my heart and lungs pumping to increase my stamina as I age. So, once you get past 60 it is totally "use it or lose it" which includes literally your whole body and all parts of it.
If you are a younger person and want to live very long walking a mile or more a day is very useful if you are over 40 or 50. If you are younger jogging can be helpful too. Under 40 I ran at least 1 mile or more a day to keep fit and in shape for skiing, hiking and everything else I might want to do.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
