I saw "The Butler" again tonight with my wife. The first time was in Santa Barbara with friends. This is definitely "Oscar" material because it is a true story.
It reminds me even though Forrest Gump was both fictional and a comedy whereas "The Butler" is a true story, it stil reminds me of Forrest Gump because the story is emotionally overwhelming for anyone who lived through those times like me. In 1957 I was 9 years old and I met Black people that were just like Louis Gaines and his wife in Washington D.C. So, how they and there sons were was pretty normal for the times. His older son Louis likely was about 4 or 5 years older than me and his younger son was exactly my age, so when he dies in Viet Nam it is very difficult for me because more boys died my age than any other (Black, white, Asian, Native American every race).
This movie is more honest about what black people were really like in the 1950s and after. Most movies sort of Caricature blacks and whites in those times. But this movie is much more honest about what people were really like then.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
