I remember Steve Jobs talking about this when he went to Reed College in Oregon before he dropped out and became Apple Computer along with Steve Wozniak. He said something like, "I studied whatever interested me rather than a normal general education plan."
Though we are not all Steve Jobs this is still something to consider. So, even though you might study what you need to learn for a career. (if this isn't your favorite thing to do) then study as a minor or just as courses what you really find that burns in your belly. And not only in college study online, study in libraries, borrow books, buy kindle books about whatever you are interested in.
I have found that literally everything I wanted to know about and everything that was fun to study about for me has helped me in some way in my life, whether it was with relationships, family or with making a living or with friends or something useful in my life.
So, it really doesn't matter what you learn about in the end because whatever you learn is likely going to help you in ways you cannot imagine now. It is only later when you suddenly might have an epiphany because holistically you suddenly get the whole picture about life when you couldn't before. And it always comes without warning and when you least expect it.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
