- 16 Jan 2016 06:58 - +18 I thought we were getting it good in the UK right now. Works out at $7 per gallon here thoI can remember $1.11 a gallon in Redding, California. I thought that was cheap then in the late 1980s and early 1990s.However, in 1969 I found one Mohawk independent station in San Pedro on the way to my friend's home in Palos Verdes was 17 cents a gallon (just before the Arab Oil embargo in 1973)We used to drive his 1959 36 horse power oval window VW Bug to Mt. Shasta and back for $10. You can't do that anymore either. But, remember minimum wage was around $1 an hour back then too. But, even at minimum wage before 1973 college kids like me and my college buddy could afford to drive 400 miles a weekend and have a car (paid for) by age 16 or 18. (Which is also different than today too). There were always enough jobs for anyone any age down to about age 15 which was the earliest you could legally work then too. So, you had to go get your Social Security Card at age 15 then so you could work legally at a part time job.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
