Slushy Snow coming down at Bunny Flats today

A friend of mine was talking to a friend of his in Lake Tahoe and he said it was raining there even at 6000 feet or higher there too for now. However, as I drove up to Bunny Flats with my friend to see what the snow conditions are there it was slushy passing Morning Star across from Macbride Springs on the way up it was still raining completely until we passed the 7 mile curve on Everitte memorial highway. At 7 mile curve my friend remarked that about 6 feet of snow had melted off since he was up there last so he was sort of upset the 7 mile curve route down on metal edged skis or snowboards wasn't there anymore because of breaks in the snow with dirt.

As we got above Dead Man's curve (where many people go over with their cars coming down over the years), it started to get a little slushy in the middle of the raindrops coming down so I slowed down thinking I was now dealing with slush on the ground with my four wheel drive truck. By the time we got to Lower Sand Flats Road the drops were half snow and by the time we got to Bunny Flats at around 7000 feet it was 3/4 snow in the drops of snow and rain so I put a rubber rain jacket on over a lighter jacket with a wool hat on with wool gloves because now it was 36 degrees out with the wind blowing pretty hard.

We walked up the snowmobile entrance into the area below the road there because they had packed it down enough not to fall into the snow 3 feet deep or so. The average snow depth there was about 6 feet deep although there were drifts 12 feet high or higher also from the wind blowing. On the road was 4 inches deep or more of slush which we were trudging through on the paved road. So, we walked mostly in the truck and car tracks through it to avoid snow down own ankles over the tops of our boots.

As we started down it was snowing more and raining less to the point where we realized the snow level will now drop into the town over night. Whether it stick as snow on the ground in town is debatable but likely I will see snow tonight which is always nice to see it coming down whether it sticks or not in town at 3500 feet elevation.
