A man headed to a gay pride parade in Los Angeles was arrested with assault rifles, ammunition and possible explosives in his car Sunday morning, police said.
The bust came on the same morning that a suspected terrorist in Orlando killed at least 50 people in a gay nightclub, in the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said the two incidents are "completely unrelated."
The California arrest happened in Santa Monica, after police responded to a report of a possible prowler, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Police found a man in a car with Indiana license plates, who said he was waiting for a friend and would then head to the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood.

Officers inspected his car and found rifles and ammunition. They also discovered tannerite, an ingredient that can be used for making pipe bombs, police said.
The man was arrested and the FBI is investigating the incident, authorities said. He has not been identified.
Security will be stepped up at the pride festival, but authorities said there is no threat to the event.
June is Pride Month, a nationwide LGBT celebration commemorating the Stonewall riots in 1969.
