It is important because this has always been a two party system as long as I can remember which would be since I was 4 in 1952 when Eisenhower was elected who was a General at the Normandy Invasion of Europe near the end of World War II.
Here is why it is important.
We are a two party system Republican and Democrat as long as I can remember and even back through history to 1900 and before. During this time there have only been White Men as presidents except for Obama and they have all been Democrats or Republicans always. There have been no exceptions since at least 1900 in this.
There have been 6 Republican Presidents and 5 Democratic ones
Eisenhower Kennedy
Nixon Johnson
Ford
Reagan Carter
Bush I Clinton
Bush II Obama
Kennedy was assasinated
Reagan was shot but survived
Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and Obama were voted in two terms each even though Nixon resigned before completing his 2nd term.
Johnson, Carter and Bush I were elected once and Ford served out the rest of Nixon's term but was not re-elected because he pardoned Nixon.
During all this time the Democrats and the Republicans have kept the U.S. system in government in relative balance between the two of them. It has been because of both of them at every point that our government has been the way it is and why it functioned as well as it has all along. There is really no other system of government on earth that I believe has functioned as well as this one has since 1900. This is my personal belief.
If Trump changes the party then the government will not function the way it has for 116 years or more.
Trump therefore is problematic to the survival of the two party system here in the U.S. because his election will damage the two party system that has kept the U.S. in balance for over 116 years or more so far.
