Monsoon rains in the desert southwest

Though Monsoon rains are normal this time of year it seems to be a bumper crop for rains coming from large tropical storms coming off the pacific and up Baja California from Mexico. For the last two days I've seen many many clouds (beautiful ones) lightning, yesterday in the Grand Canyon area and lightning in Flagstaff as well as various other places ongoing now for 2 days. Rains come down some but most of the dry desert air sucks up the moisture mostly before it hits the ground. However it is very interesting to be in a desert area with 50% or more humidity often now during the monsoons. Also, I have to be very vigilant on dirt roads thinking about "Where" rain is coming down and is that rain going to flash flood over to where I am right now. People who don't notice where rain is coming down and if that rain drains to where they are might wind up dead in a flash flood in the desert, especially if they are walking along "Dry" riverbeds in Arizona, Southern California or New Mexico.

The weather channel was saying something about how these storms are creating a conveyor belt of storms now causing flooding in the South and  east of the U.S. as well. There is less flooding in the desert because the air is dry and most of the moisture gets sucked out into the air before the rain hits the ground. But, I did get rained on some today around sunset but my clothes quickly dried in the desert dryness.
