My parents just like I have raised my children believe that each person as they become an adult have to chose their own path. For example, my father's older brother was likely an agnostic or an atheist and they stayed friends their whole lives. I have a daughter also that has an agnostic viewpoint because she believes "either religions have everything right or they have everything wrong". So, my younger daughter reminds me a lot of a very moral Zen Monk or something like that. In other words her idealistic morality is beyond me. However, I would say that I am a pragmatically compassionate person towards all life in the universe which is based upon my experiences of being treated really bad to the point of almost having to off myself by some people that I loved and cared about along the way.
So, I'm a survivor. I don't put up with unnecessary bullshit from anyone. And luckily I was like this by age 20 years old which is one reason why I'm still alive now. And like my father I have no trouble at all in telling people to go "Fuck themselves" when necessary. Which is another survival trait people need to develop if they want to live to be 30 or beyond. If you can get there by 20 it would be better.
by the way, if you don't find a way to survive whatever you face in life your children won't survive either or theirs or theirs. Something to think about.
