It's very possible that we had things more contagious before about 1920 or 1930 but we likely will never know now because there is no real way to check that I know of presently.
However, the Omicron is the most infectious thing even more infectious than the most infectious virus known before which is Measles.
More and more people we know of in Northern and Southern California are testing positive. As a result I try not to go places that are inside other than my own home.
My wife got nervous and took a PCR test today because a good friend of ours just tested positive and a month ago 3 members of our extended family here in Southern California got Omicron, even their 3 year old son. They are all recovered now because they were mid 30s down to age 3 or 4 years old.
However, any way you can keep away from going indoors anyplace other than your own home is a good idea now because even though if you are younger than 45 there is only a 4% chance you will die of Covid if you get it there IS a 21% chance that you could die between 45 and 65 and a 75% chance you could die of covid between 65 and up if you get Covid now in any form (especially if you are not vaccinated.
