US Gives Drone Nicknamed Phoenix Ghost to Ukraine, what’s so great about it?

WASHINGTON DC, KOMPAS.com – The United States has revealed details of its latest military aid package that troops will use Ukraine in the eastern part of the country.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the drone, manufactured by US company Aevex Aerospace, was well suited for combat in eastern Ukraine, especially over the flat and open terrain of the region known as the Donbas.

“Without getting into the specs, but the things this drone can do are perfect for this particular type of terrain,” Kirby said.

“I thought I’d just let it go. But its purpose is similar to the Switchblade, which is basically a one-way, attack drone. And that’s basically what it was designed for,” he added.

However, not much else is known about the Phoenix Ghost drone, including its range and precision capabilities.

Kirby, however, said that the drone, which has not yet been delivered to Ukraine, is equipped with an onboard camera.

“It can also be used to give you an idea of what it sees, of course. But the main focus is attack,” he said.

He added that the system had been in development since before Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine on February 24.

“But we will continue to develop that in a suitable way for a tactical unmanned aerial system in eastern Ukraine,” Kirby said.

The Pentagon said training for the Ghost drone would be similar to training on the Switchblade, but did not reveal details.
