I felt sort of sad because much of the culture around mountain places now days is through their ski lifts and other entertainment venues in the mountain places of the world that used to (or still do) get snow.
For example, even in Mt. Shasta where I lived off and on from 1976 until 1992 between the 1970s and 1980s having 4 to 7 feet of snow or more in town was sort of normal. Even as recently as 1992 there were 12 feet of snow in town and roofs were collapsing a lot like from the Lake Effect snow hitting northern New York state right now, for example. (where they got up to 7 feet of snow) which was collapsing some roofs this week.
But, regularly getting 4 to 7 feet of snow like I used to get at my 2 1/2 acres at 4000 feet on Mt. Shasta made me build an A-Frame for when I or my family wasn't there to prevent roof collapse from that much snow. Even 4 feet of snow can collapse most regular roofs that aren't steep enough and there can be unusual snow conditions where because of ice and other conditions I'm not sure even an A-Frame could withstand either.
But, since 1992 there haven't been any real snow storms that have dropped more than 4 to 5 feet of snow in town on any one occasion that I can presently remember since 1992. (But, I could be wrong here because I haven't lived there since 1992 in the summer then.
But, generally speaking there is less snow in Mt. Shasta (and a lot of other places around the world) than there used to be up until around 1992. This is a given because of Global Climate changes.
