When I was still young I read a book called "Life begins at 40" which was written in the 1930s.
The Basic Idea was that "If you have all your ducks in a row" your life begins at 40.
If you don't have all your ducks in a row then it's something else.
What does it mean to have all your ducks in a row?
What I got from reading all this was that you need to have your home somewhat paid for if you own a home.
You need to have saved enough money to retire on if you plan to retire ever.
These are the two biggest things.
I would add to this: "If you have a good relationship with a significant other by 40 this helps a lot too.
I remarried at 46 and I have now been married about 30 years which worked for me.
I would also add: "Eating organic food and living away from bigger cities in the suburbs or countryside helps longevity too.
another big one is the ability to travel some after you retire.
Some people buy motor homes and I used to have one from about 2003 to 2015. If my wife's health is better we likely will buy another one next year some time.
The nice thing about a motor home is that you can stop whenever you need to and rest or make food. the bad thing about a motor home is if you cannot afford to rent a hotel room once in a while to break up the trip.
Flying every where can be really expensive and hotels are about twice as expensive as they used to be also.
But, travel can help you not get stuck in ruts in your thinking and open your mind to new experiences.
Yes. Life begins at 40 if all your ducks are in a row. Otherwise it is different than that.
