38 degrees on the SF coast last night. Very unusual.

The weather man said at first it was going to be 44 degrees for a low. However, the actual low was 38 degrees which is pretty low. But, when I checked Paso Robles it will be 27 degrees tonight so I guess that makes more sense in this context. and Morgan Hill will be 36 degrees tonight Fahrenheit and 33 on Monday. So, I guess we are in. for it cold wise. Luckily we have a very well insulated house with Thermopane (double windows) to stay warm. I worry about other people throughout the area in older homes not so well insulated at times like this though.

For example, our other home in Santa Barbara isn't insulated as well and doesn't have thermopane (double windows) for example because it was built around 1950 as a Ranch style home which you see a lot in California where the weather is more moderate especially in California. However, because it is close to the ocean what we have found is that if we keep the central heating set to 65 degrees at least in both houses we don't get mold.

We have a friend in Santa Barbara with a large home that didn't do this and she now has 200,000 dollars mold damage from being near the ocean. So, if you have a big house or a small house near the ocean one way to avoid these kinds of damage bills is to keep your thermostat, especially in the winters up to 65 degrees to prevent mold damage.

Another thing that helps is a fluorescent or other single light bulb in in your closets on year around. We do this too especially in our house nearer to San Francisco on the coast. So, we don't get mold problems from living this near to the coast (1 mile away).

But, for closets keep the light bulb on 24 hours a day in the closets year around to prevent mold and other problems near the coast.

You might say: "Isn't this expensive to keep heater and lights on all the time?"

The alternative is the 200,000 dollar bill for mold remediation of a friend of ours. So, which is more expensive?
