Basically if I understand this right. Gene Hackman's wife first died of Hantavirus. Then since there was no one to take care of Gene Hackman who at age 95 had senile dementia, then he died. Last of all their dog starved to death or died of thirst whatever came first. This appears to be what actually happened in Santa Fe, New Mexico where the 3 of them lived.
