Writing

My particular style is what I would call a "Storyteller Style" which comes from my father and Grandfather mostly. I'm 77 so my Grandfather was born in the 1870s so in this sense was very different than my father. My Grandfather started out as a pitcher on a Baseball team in Kansas before he became an Electrician and Electrical Contractor. So, I guess he would have been around 20 or so in 1900. He passed away in 1970 in the fall in Idaho near his Gold Mining Claim of about 1800 Acres there near Elk City but he and his wife my grandmother also owned a house in Lake Forest Park where he spent winters when it snowed a lot in the Elk City area.

So, he was a story teller because he was very intelligent like my father and being able to entertain people with stories about one's life was a style of being Way before radio or TV or even the Internet. So, it's an ancient style of communication sort of like the "Bards" of the British Isles and how people got most of their information it seemed about life.

Which is a problem now that local Newspapers are collapsing one by one so people won't know what is going on as much in their communities in the U.S. Because of this.

My father continued this SToryteller style so I have many of his stories about growing up in Oregon, Seattle and TExas especially from listening to his stories. He also told stories about he and his first wife and brother and how they left on a Yacht that they financed for Tahiti and were gone from 1939 until around 1941. In fact, my father's first wife worked for the newspaper in Honolulu as a writer when the Pearl Harbor Attack took place when she got on a ship for Seattle to rejoin Dad and his family because World war II was beginning in the Pacific and she was many evacuated off the Hawaiian Islands then back to the Mainland.

And so I continue this storyteller style of writing demonstrated to me all my life growing up by my father and grandfather. On top of this my father was Valedictorian of his high School Class which made him much more eloquent than the average person as well.

My father was sort of a Spiritual John Wayne. Very tall like me (I'm about 6 feet five inches) and my Dad was 6 feet 2 1/2 inches and my Uncle Bob (the oldest brother) was 6 feet five inches tall and likely taller and wider at the shoulders than even I am.

So, my writing style evolved over time from listening to my father tell stories about every aspect of his life and I also listened to my Grandfather's stories whenever he was around. However, I mostly grew up from age 4 to adulthood in Southern California while my Grandfather and Grandmother on my Dad's side lived in Seattle and my Grandfather spend 6 months a year after he retired at his mining claim in Elk City, Idaho.
