Once I found a good enough reason to stay alive it was easy to stay alive before this it wasn't

So, the frequency of how young men killed themselves in battle as an acceptable way to commit suicide for thousands of years makes complete sense to me now and always has.

For example, you fall in love with some girl and believe she is the only one for you. Then she marries or gets together with someone else. What do you do? You join the army and volunteer for the most dangerous assignment possible where there is a 90% chance you are going to die. However, if you survive this then maybe some day they make you a General in the Army and you marry the boss's daughter and have kids with her.

However, the wounds from the girl or girls you left behind never really leave you at all throughout your life.

But, somehow  you find ways to love them and to love your children and move forward with your life anyway.

How many millions of times has this story been repeated over the last 10,000 to 20,000 years? Over and Over again?

Millions of Times. And some survive all this and some don't.
