Which president was scarier: Nixon or Trump? I think Trump is the craziest president since Andrew Johnson who tried to bring back Slavery

Nixon was crazy in that he lied about so many things. However, in the number of lies I think Trump has him beat 100 times over. Then there was Andrew Johnson who likely supported Lincoln being assassinated because he believed in White Supremacy like Trump does too where all the other groups and races are slaves of the Whites.

Begin quotes on Andrew Johnson who was Lincoln's vice president before he was assassinated:

No, President Andrew Johnson did not try to bring back formal, legal slavery after Lincoln was assassinated; in fact, his Reconstruction plan required Southern states to abolish slavery by ratifying the
13th Amendment.
However, Johnson's policies and personal views, which were deeply rooted in white supremacy, were highly lenient toward the former Confederacy and allowed for the creation of systems that effectively replicated key aspects of slavery.
Key aspects of his approach included:
  • Pardons for Confederates: Johnson issued thousands of pardons to former Confederate officials and wealthy planters, allowing them to regain their land (which sometimes had been temporarily given to freed slaves) and political power.
  • "Black Codes": Under Johnson's lenient form of "Presidential Reconstruction," Southern state legislatures passed restrictive "Black Codes". These laws were designed to control the labor and behavior of African Americans, forcing them into a system of dependent agricultural labor that was essentially "slavery in all but name".
  • Opposition to Civil Rights: Johnson repeatedly clashed with the Republican-controlled Congress, vetoing key legislation like the Freedmen's Bureau Bill and the Civil Rights Act of 1866, both of which were intended to protect the rights and welfare of freed slaves.
  • States' Rights: He believed that states, not the federal government, should determine the rights of African Americans, including the right to vote. This stance effectively left Black citizens at the mercy of hostile Southern state governments.

Ultimately, while the 13th Amendment legally ended slavery, Johnson's policies severely weakened federal efforts to ensure full freedom and civil rights for Black Americans, contributing to a system of racial subjugation that persisted for another century.
