So, if the photos are dated correctly of mt. Shasta the mountain is powdered with snow so far but not deep

This is why my friend in Shasta was saying it has been pretty dry there because often the snow can be 2 to 5 feet deep by now.

For example, in 1970 when I tried to climb to Horse camp with 2 friends on snowshoes the snow was 5 or more feet deep with the top 3 feet powder which is difficult to impossible to traverse unless you pack each snowshoe print down at least 3 times before you move forward. Otherwise your snow shoe will fall off and you will go down into the snow and your friends have to stand by you and pull you out of the snow at that depth of powder.

HOwever, by trading the lead man periodically we were able to get forward progress getting out of there after almost freezing to death in a snow cave without proper gear the previous night during the complete blizzard white out with no visibility at all even with flashlights. this was 1970 when we were all under 22 years old and in college. None of us still alive would do anything like this now because we are much older and much wiser than then about a lot of things.
