This was a very different place as you can imagine in 1956. then they showed movies (black and white mostly) on a big Sheet or screen in the summers in the evenings and whole families would come and sit on the lawn there eating popcorn and candy they brought from home. You likely don't see this as much but this is what it was like then.
So, it was a gathering place for children and families even in 1956 when I was 8 years old and we first moved there from Tujunga (also in Los Angeles county). My mother met a mother who was from Norway and introduced me to her son John and we became friends through a meeting at this park. He lived right next door to the park then in Glendale. He also went to the same grade school as me and was 8 years old at that time.
By the time I was 12 we moved to within a block of Glendale High School on Harvard street and the most famous Graduate at that time of Glendale High school was John Wayne the famous cowboy actor.
