Bonds 101: What you need to know about the bond market

I'm not sure exactly what is going on with the Bond Market. However, about 10 to 15 years ago during the Great Recession we had bond ladders in place. However, the Great Recession caused cities and municipalities to go bankrupt. So, we found people were losing their principle which is awful. So, we got out of bonds before we lost our money in bonds too. The worst that happened to us is we didn't get our interest but we at least didn't lose our principle. However, I'm thinking that we might be moving into a place like the Great REcession once again where cities and municipalities go bankrupt from a collapsing stock market like during the Great Recession. So, for now at least we aren't interested in Bonds after what happened during the Great Recession from about 2008 onward when many people's homes went underwater too. Luckily, we avoided that problem too then.

 begin quote:

Moves in the bond market can have huge impacts on consumer finances — affecting how much you pay for everything from mortgages to car loans.
