Strangely enough, I was much more troubled by Twilight than I was "50 Shades of Grey". Why is this?
Because in "50 Shades of Grey" you have two consenting adults, contracts signed and all that and likely two college graduates which means she is at least 22 (or 21 years old if she graduated High school at 17). Also, she has consciously decided to remain a virgin until she met the man of her dreams.
So, even though you might not agree with the premise you can understand what both she and he are about.
Whereas Twilight was a moral slippery slope for me. I grew up with Bela Lugosi as Dracula. There were no redeeming qualities of Dracula then. He just killed everyone by sucking the blood out of them. "Interview with a Vampire" likely for me, is the most horrific movie ever made. Because it first familiarizes you with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt like they are family with Kirsten Dunst as the beautiful child who never ages. So, for me, "Interview with a Vampire" and the next step would be "Twilight" and that series was much more horrific morality wise than "50 Shades of Grey" simply because "50 Shades of Grey" is about two fully consenting adults.
Whereas the "Twilight" series was a subtle moral rape of everyone who watched it. Both are titillating
but "50 shades of grey" doesn't pretend to be something it really isn't. Because how can you be happy in the end with people who suck blood from people to live (even if the Good vampires in the Twilight series only suck the blood of deer, antelopes and animals (which kills them) to survive.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
