Got up this morning after rainbows and rain last evening and night and drove through the rain. After 78 degrees in Mt. Shasta yesterday it was kind of a shock to wake up to 40s and low 50s and rain all the way up to about Medford and Grants Pass. I drove over the mt. Ashland pass because I'm more familiar with my 4 wheel drive than my wife and let her drive from Ashland North. It was a pretty nice day with no real problems at all to speak of. We were fairly happy heading north to see two of our kids one of their wives and one of our grandchildren for easter. Skiing yesterday was a pretty happy but exhausting experience (if you have ever skied through spring slushy snow trying to stay upright over deep cut tracks of other skiers who skied down before you you will understand what I'm saying here. So, I found that it was easier (and I wasn't ever going to fall this way) to just snow plow (Pizza style) through most of it and sometimes for speed over some things go into a normal no turning skiing stance to make it over some small hills with enough speed so I didn't have to push with my poles at all. So, all in all a good day because I never fell down even once.
By the way if you get into deep corn snow and your ankles go out in one ankle or another if it isn't too steep then you can also use a snowplow to get back to the lodge. I had to do this on Douglas a few years ago now because my right ankle just wouldn't do the left turns in corn snow because it is a much harder turn when in corn snow because you have to apply so much more force to your edges to turn in corn snow. But, when I saw another skier who was having problems with the conditions using a snow plow on the bottom of a black diamond run I realized "Hey! I can do that even if my ankle can't do regular turns right now!" So, I did and put my skis back on then and skied snowplow style back the lodge because it was getting dark and I was getting cold walking back then a few years ago now from the Douglas Run at Mt. Shasta Ski Park then.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
