As winds and waves increase this century it means that many places by 2100 on oceans won't tolerate travel by boats as winds and waves increase in some parts of the world. So, if people are traveling by boats some places they will be submarines where wind and waves are less destructive if the water is deep enough to tolerate a submarine.
This will also affect air travel at lower altitudes where dangerous winds might affect takeoffs and landings too as global warming increases. So, more and more on land you will likely see underground travel as in subways where they won't be affected by wind so much and you will see submarines more and more for safety on the ocean when traveling by ocean anywhere on earth.
Often Sailboats are already designed to survive with being de-masted in storms almost like submarines already where you can batten down the hatches and go through waves if necessary or upside down through major storms as long as people tie themselves to something so they aren't beaten up too much by storms. I think boats will more and more be designed with more submarine types of features like Ballast tanks for going beneath storms and waves in order for people not to be hurt by waves and winds during this century and after.
