Harrold, Texas

Harrold, Texas is 30 miles from the nearest Sheriff or or policeman. So, the principal of the 100 student school from Kindergarten through high school armed some of it's teachers with concealed weapons starting 5 years ago. I think this is a good idea. When he was interviewed tonight on Saturday's NBC Nightly news he said something like, "If someone comes to harm children here, I hope our teachers send that person home in a body bag and that all the children are kept safe." With the proper training and precautions I think it is much more cost effective to train teachers and to give some of them who have the stomach for it concealed weapons, whether the weapon is on their person or locked inside a cupboard or drawer somewhere, that is loaded for easy access only by teachers and Principals. In the end this is the most cost effective way to protect children from crazy people with guns who plan to use them on children in any school.

Also, there are now ways to protect children from being able to fire the weapon by having the weapon keyed to fingerprints or dna so no one but a  teacher can fire it. Police often have these types of weapons too so no one can grab it and fire it except the policeman or soldier.

Another cheaper solution would be to key the trigger mechanism to a 3 or 4 digit combination lock on the weapon or the locked drawer or cupboard.
