Putin's Real Fear

Putin's real fear is not whether Assad stays in power in Syria or not. His real fear is that Chechen terrorists take chemical weapons back to Russia and use them on Russians. This kind of fear both Russian and American diplomats can relate to which is one reason why he wrote this Op-Ed article in the New York Times.

It is not in Putin's interests to create a war between Iran and all the Sunni countries even though that is actually what is happening because Young Sunni Muslim males are going to Syria in droves to fight for Al Qaeda to end Assad's dictatorship. I watched a newsman interview a young Al Qaeda soldier coming into Syria through Turkey in the news today who was from Tunisia. It is said somewhere between 300 and 1000 new Opposition soldiers who are young Sunni Muslims are coming into Syria to fight Assad and to topple his government every single day. This is a literally unending stream of new opposition soldiers ongoing. So, unless Russia is going to be supplying arms to Assad for 20 to 50 years or so this likely will continue unabated ongoing.

Also, there is NOT an unlimited amount of Syrians to fight for Assad even though there are a lot of Iranians and Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon which likely will destabilize the government of Lebanon in the not too distant future.

So, since there are a limited amount of soldiers that Assad can get on his side and literally an unlimited amount of Sunni Muslim soldiers ready to join the opposition in Syria, unless Assad uses Chemical weapons he likely is eventually going to run out of soldiers. But, this war could still last another 5 to 10 years or more before that happens. So, who is going to win? Likely neither side for 20 to 50 years at this point. So, I would expect 1,000,000 or more people will die and over 10 million or more will be homeless refugees before this thing likely will end. This is something for the whole world to think about including Putin.
