John McCain Is Very Upset Chuck Todd Made Fun Of Him

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) is raging mad at MSNBC host Chuck Todd, who was reportedly caught joking about McCain having "heart palpitations" upon discovering that former Gen. David Petraeus opposed further intervention in Iraq. "It's not like further evidence was needed to prove the liberal bias at MSNBC and in the mainstream media, but Chuck Todd's 'hot mic' comments asking if anyone 'checked on' Senator McCain for 'heart palpitations' over General Petraeus' remarks on Iraq show just how quickly the media will try and discredit Senator McCain and anyone who questions President Obama," McCain's communications director, Brian Rogers, said in a statement.
The alleged hot mic incident occurred Thursday before President Obama announced he would send a limited force of 300 advisers in Iraq. According to Mediaite, Todd and Fox News' Ed Henry mocked McCain over Petraeus' Wednesday warning against further intervention in Iraq.
Todd was quoted asking if anyone "checked on" McCain, who has been a staunch supporter of military intervention in Iraq, following Petraeus' remarks. (The "hot mic" recording does not clearly show Todd speaking.)
"I’ve got to think McCain must have had heart palpitations," Todd joked.
But McCain's spokesman argued Petraeus' position was more nuanced. Rogers pointed to a Thursday report indicating Petraeus supported targeted strikes against the antigovernment military forces in Iraq.
"It should be embarrassing for MSNBC — but likely isn't — to see that in another interview just one day later Gen. Petraeus said he would support targeted strikes against the ISIS terrorist army in Iraq, which is what Senator McCain has advocated — so no 'heart palpitations' necessary," he snarked.
McCain is no stranger to media criticism. Rogers similarly fumed at Politico in May for misrepresenting the senator's policy views.
An MSNBC rep did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider.

I greatly respect and admire John McCain. However, often he does sound like it is still the 1970s or even the 1960s when everything cost a lot less than now. Everything now like Aircraft carriers and jets all cost about 10 or 20 times as much as they did then because labor and parts have become so much more expensive than before. So, trying to do a whole lot of military stuff is just going to give us another 2008 or worse it could bring about another Great Depression or worse a World Wide Great Depression. (If you remember the last Great Depression brought on World War II.) So, getting all militaristic isn't as practical as it once was for the U.S. in reality.

I agree with Obama it is just too financially expensive to get involved in wars unless our nation is directly attacked. It's not world war II and it's not the 1950s or 1960s when we could afford these kinds of wars. It's 2014 when the whole world is way different than then. And we need to get more realistic about what the U.S. can survive.

What good in the end did all the deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan accomplish? Just sending in cruise missiles without troops both places might have been more useful than wasting all those lives. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan. What has been accomplished that can be maintained? How many will die in Afghanistan when we leave this time? How many have already died in Iraq and Syria since we left Iraq?

We should finally admit when countries don't share the same history, democracy really can't work like it can in the U.S. where we have history going back to the Magna Carta in England and time for institutions of democracy and trust to build up. We have over 600 years of trust building. Other places just don't have that .There is no trust to sustain a democracy most places except for Europe and the U.S. and Canada and Australia and places like that. Democracy hasn't worked as well most places on earth. Look at Russia and tell me how well it has worked out there!
