This years El Nino

Because of the added heat in the oceans the El Nino coming may more closely resemble the storms and rains of 1995 and 1997 when bridges washed away and malls were flooded and even roads were washed away and some suburban areas had no way in or out except by boat or plane for a few days because of flooding. So, we may be entering a time like that in California once again this winter. With all the fires that would be a different kind of disaster because likely the grasses and trees and bushes won't grow back by then and will also cause all sorts of erosion and mud slides on top of everything else.

However, if you ask anyone who studies this kind of thing, flooding is always preferable to droughts because at least where it doesn't flood to bad you have enough water to grow food. But, that doesn't mean many people won't lose houses to flash flooding or mud slides either. So, it is always a mixed blessing when a lot of rain comes in a short period of time. California is one of the few places like the Southern States where you can get up to 16 inches of rain in 3 days time and with all the altitude changes in California you really have to be careful when 16 inches of rain come down anywhere in 3 days here.
