If we contemplate the last 30 or more years now Iran and Syria belong to Russia. Iraq Shiite loyalty wise also belongs to Iran so it realistically belongs to Russia too.
As long as American troops were in Iraq, Iraq belonged to the U.S. but it doesn't really anymore. It's sort of like Iraq has divorced parents the U.S. and Russia. But, because it is Shiite ruled it's loyalty has to be to Iran, Assad and Russia which is why things are so weird right now.
Russia left Syria because of sanctions against Russia. So, the U.S. Nato and Turkey and Saudi Arabia began bombing ISIS and some of Assad's soldiers.
Russia didn't want to lose it's port at Tartus so it finally came to Syria's aid so Assad wouldn't be removed from power.
Now, this is a really difficult situation (Cold War reality) because Russia left and now Russia is back.
So, who owns Syria, and Iraq now?
It's difficult to say.
But, this is how nuclear wars might begin.
And since we don't want planet earth to nuke out over a U.S. and Russian plane crashing into each other it might be time to change strategies before this happens.
Because nuking the whole world out of existence is really stupid so someone needs to change things so we don't nuke out the whole world out of stupidity.
