The main problem with the Conservative position at least in the U.S.

There ARE Conservative Environmentalists

In other countries it is okay to be both an environmentalist and a conservative. But, for some reason this isn't true in the U.S.

Here is an example of a conservative position." I want to make money harvesting all trees in the U.S. so we can make money cutting them all down at a profit: (of course this is extreme but I'm making a point). So, let's say the Conservatives decide to cut down all the trees in the U.S. for a profit and sell all the wood to China. Then what happens?

One or more El Nino or other storms and everything in the U.S. gets ruined because there are no trees or roots to slow down flashfloods and so erosion destroys homes wherever there are mountains where the trees have all been cut down.

So, from my point of view this is the problem with being a conservative. The view is "Let's live in denial so we can get rich. And it doesn't matter what happens to future generations either."

This likely is the biggest problem I have with a conservative point of view of not caring about the future only profit right now. Not even thinking 20 or 50 or 100 years into the future to see what their actions are going to cause during that time.

So, it is the opposite of the name "Conserving" or Conservative (one who conserves) instead it should be the Wasters" instead of the conservatives in this one sense.

However, on other subjects being a conservative makes more sense to me like having an armed citizenry to prevent against threats from without or within the U.S.

So, I consider both the Conservative point of view and also the Liberal point of view sort of paradoxical. This is why I don't completely subscribe to either of them but choose as a free thinker the points that instead make sense to me.

If you are just loyal to a single ideology then likely you are not a free thinking and educated adult.
It's important think about the consequences of every single position you take. That's why only being a member of one party on all subjects isn't that intelligent and can be counterproductive to human survival in your country and around the world in the end.

So, I can't say that I'm a conservative. However, I can say I was raised a conservative and found problems not only with a conservative point of view but also with Liberal points of view too. So, I have found it is better to support the issues that make sense to you no matter what party it is.

So, this is why many of us call ourselves "Independents".
