The problem of flashfloods and mud slides

The main problem is not if you are driving in a car coming face to face with one like I did because once I saw what was coming at me I could burn rubber spinning the car around and hightail it about 70 to 90 miles per hour so it didn't hit me and shove my car sideways off the road and across the desert.

The problem is when you can't see it because it is coming from the side or behind you. Then you have no chance to outrun this. Some of the many cars stuck in this were in a traffic jam and had stopped moving or nearly so. So, they were caught like rats in a trap because there was nowhere to go but to eventually climb out of their windows and escape when it was safe enough to do that. Also, some people were in homes when their property was hit. I was reading about a pregnant lady all alone who was wading in 3 feet of mud and had to run barefoot to a neighbors for help because 75 percent of the property she was on washed away in mud, rocks, dirt and water.

Also, what happened here I learned was heavily laden rain clouds off the Pacific which is warm (at least 75 Degrees Fahrenheit) which is unusual for this time of year at least, came off the pacific ocean and then the wind stopped and the storms just dropped almost two inches in less than an hour with drought conditions in hills near the desert. So, this much water had nothing to hold it back and washed down canyons and took out homes and vehicles on the roads.

So, just because you live in the mountains doesn't mean you are safe from the coming El Nino. And even if you live on top of a mountain it is likely your road might wash out so be sure to have potable water and dried food and stuff stored for if and when that happens. Because who knows if and when your road will be repaired. It's nice to have a smaller to about 500 to 650 CC Dualsport motorcycle with knobbies that can manage with or without roads in such a case or a really offroad 4 wheel drive that might be okay with no roads at all too.
