Traveling

We decided to leave the Desert about 1 day early because our some of our plans didn't work out with our God Daughter and to visit her and her husband nearer their work in L.A. and also to visit my cousin and his wife. Luckily, since my wife and I could drive the diamond lane because there were two of us in the car and because that time of day people were heading from work out of town into the suburbs all or most of the traffic was going in the other direction so we were able to whizz right back into Los Angeles because of this very quickly near the end of the day Tuesday.

The desert was a little hard for me and reminded me that my son is out of state, my father and mother (who I helped build a retirement home on Yucca Mesa above Yucca Valley are also passed away. So, until I can bring more family (like maybe my grandson to the desert) or something like that maybe the grief of my son being out of state and my parents and my wife's parents being gone might be dredged up by going to Palm Springs.

However, the weather was beautiful and we ate at Johnny Rocket's across from The River which has 1950s cuisine like from the Soda Fountain days with Root Beer Floats, Grilled cheese and french fries and Hamburgers like they were made in the 1950s. I even ordered fried pickles which my stomach didn't completely thank me for that were breaded and fried dill pickle chips. But, it took me back to the 1950s and early 1960s with Bob's Big Boy in Glendale and watching all the guys and babes in their hot hopped up cars for street racing then in the early 1960s then. My best friend eventually built up several street racers, mostly 1956 and 1957 Chevy's and I used to ride with him sometimes while he was street racing with the wide 12 to 15 inch racing slicks burning rubber and spewing black rubber smoke off the line until cruising and  street racing became illegal in California.

Life in the early to mid 1960s was  pretty much exactly like "American Graffiti" back then.

George Lucas lived it and so did I. Also, Friday or Saturday nights back then we would cruise Hollywood Blvd and the Sunset Strip because that was also all the rage back then too from my age 15 on.

Also, we went to eat at the Cork Mill which is also a nice place to eat in Palm Desert.
