I met people born before the Civil War who hadn't died yet in the early 1950s. They were in their 80s and 90s then. So, imagine still people who had never seen a car or possibly even a train until they were adults. People like this had very different attitudes than now regarding what they thought was real. Any who survived into the 1960s thought young people likely were nuts compared to the world they grew up in.
However, what young people did in the 1960s was to realize that the whole world was going to nuke right out of existence so my generation decided to "Make Friends" with the rest of the world. To "Make love not War" with the whole world.
To some degree this worked and the paranoia decreased. Oh, intellectuals in colleges talked about Global Warming and Global Climate change then in the early 1970s but most people didn't listen to them.
Now, if people are rational and logical and don't have a financial vested interest to lie to themselves about global Climate change they tend to believe it in just from empirical logical information coming from "Everywhere" on earth now.
So, you have this slide from one type of craziness to another in the world. When I grew up it seemed like 90% of the people or more were fairly staunch Christians who went to church every Sunday.
When did this change to what it is now?
The Viet Nam War changed everything. When ministers often supported the government over the lives of young people, young people in the 1960s walked away from churches in droves. Especially, if they were in public universities and public colleges then. So, churches became (mostly protestant churches) became emissaries of death to the educated.
This was one of the most significant changes to people in the 20th century. These two things.
Young people embracing the world (so we wouldn't nuke out of existence) and embracing each other while walking away from Protestant Churches that supported war and the deaths of our friends in far away places like Viet Nam.
It has continued to move in this direction not caused now by Viet Nam now but by radical Islam in the world where young men and women kill themselves for their religion by blowing up innocent people and themselves.
So, likely atheism could become the dominant trait of educated young people all over earth directly caused by Viet Nam and then Radical Islam.
I fully expect 50% or more people to be agnostic or atheistic by the end of this century at least in the Western World caused directly just by Viet Nam, Nuclear Weapons and Radical Islam.
Radical Islam is not a good term for it. Maybe a better way to put this is unhappy young people looking for an honorable way to die and finding terrorism as a way to do this within their cultures.
However, the primary cause for this terrorism in poorer Muslim cultures is Overpopulation caused by the forbidding of birth control or abortion. So, one could say this is a natural response to overpopulation, no jobs and no food or future available because of all these things.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
