Love doesn't work without Practicality

When I was a young man I was a dreamer, an idealist and even then I was an idea man rather than a plodder. However, being an idealist (whoever you are this is going to cause you a lot of suffering) because the world is not a perfect place. One dharma saying is: "Samsara Sucks". Or for those of you who don't understand samsara the physical world "Sucks".

What this means is that it is not a perfect place. It will break your heart every time if you let it and we see this in all the broken idealistic people dead before age 30 around us as we are growing up.

If you make it past 30 you are either pragmatic or dead. It doesn't mean your idealism has died it just means you have learned to replace idealism as much as possible with pragmatism.

In short, these "solutions" represent neither principles nor pragmatism, and instead reflect dangerous phantasms and fanaticism.

In other words if you don't become pragmatic and practical often you won't survive to 25 or 30.
The world is not necessarily what you want it to be and possibly never will be. But, you can find a way to survive in it for yourself even if you are watching all your friends die one by one from what seems like both pathetic and crazy reasons.

This was my experience too. Also, what I found horrific about 15 to 30 was watching friends become so disillusioned that  they gave up every thing that made their lives worthwhile in order to survive and they became like Only biological robots.

Luckily, I didn't have to go that far. I found a way to pragmatically create a world I could live in that was alternative enough for me to survive and to keep my soul.

I never sold my soul to a corporation and I never became a (Born died 20 buried 60) kind of person. So, because of that I'm still alive and relatively happy in my late 60s.

But, it is never easy to watch all your friends either die or become biological robots or go crazy.
It is an awful thing to do.

But, if you are resourceful enough you CAN create a world practical enough to survive in an still not lose your soul.
