The Republican National Convention organizers are broke, and they want a controversial billionaire to fix it, according to a report.
An email from those putting on next week’s Cleveland event seen by POLITICO showed that they have asked Sheldon Adelson to give them $6 million.
The Republican National Committee needs $64 million for the convention, though have only raised $58 million, according to the letter, dated Tuesday.
Their money troubles come as those who pledged donations to the event, including $1 million from billionaire David Koch, $1 million from Coca-Cola and $500,000 from FedEx, have withdrawn the offers.

“Over the past couple months, negative publicity around our potential nominee resulted in a considerable number of pledges backing out from their commitments,” the letter, signed by convention CEO David Gilbert and business leaders, reportedly reads.
Adelson, a Trump supporter worth $26.3 billion according to Forbes, has previously acted as a piggy bank for conservative causes, shelling out a fortune from his casino-based cache.
Many have decried what they see as the 82-year-old and his wife's outsized influence on the political process.
