It's realizing that people you are around not only don't speak your language at all but also may not want to, also may not be Christian or even Christian Secular and may have entirely different customs than you do and may not tolerate someone like you even being alive and walking right next to them without killing you.
So, "How do you deal with that and stay alive?"
People often think it is so exotic to travel to far away foreign lands and it can be that. But, it also can be many other things too. and if you aren't prepared for that then you are either dead or screwed or both.
It is much easier to go someplace like Canada or Europe where you might feel much less culture shock than going to almost anyplace in Asia or the Middle East.
