What caused the "Hacking mentality"?
The Rise in the Cost of living worldwide to the point where both parents have to work or single mothers have to work and turn their kids into "Latch Key Kids". Then often with NO adults around at all, children are left to fend for themselves which means often it isn't safe enough to go outside because of bullies or bullies who are also rapists in the case of girls.
This creates fear and children turning to their "computer toys' for relationships and solace but by the time a boy (who is intelligent) reaches about 10 to 12 years of age he is going to move on to get to know his computer friends better.
What is the point of view of a "Hacker" from age 8 on?
The motto of all hackers is: "What can I get away with?"
The problem with this is it is the opposite of what is needed by democracies which is: "Freedom is Responsibility".
So, often boys don't get to "Freedom is Responsibility" until they are in their 20s if then.
One of the ways "Hackers" get attention is to do something "Anything" to get attention whether it is good or bad.
For example, the Pink haired Gay character from Canada who wrote the code which destroyed our last election wasn't a bad person, he was just a very intelligent coder likely once a hacker who could write fabulous code that was then grabbed by Cambridge Analytical who had grabbed identity information on 50 million Americans from Facebook illegally that they were then able to Emotionally program to either vote for Trump or not to vote at all in disgust all those 50 million voters. The person who actually weaponized the Pink Gay character from Canada's code was actually Steve Bannon who mobilized Cambridge Analytica to put Trump in Office.
This is how Trump actually won.
