Compassion in the end is the MOST Powerful path.
Why?
Because only through compassion do you function as a being helping all beings.
However, for the inexperienced the Path of Compassion is the trickiest of paths to get right.
To do it right it is not easy. At least not as easy as one might think.
Why?
Because the difference of doing it right is extreme.
This is why most people start with dualism on the path to Compassion.
Because the problem of a path of compassion is nihilism where nothing seems important at all.
Whereas the discipline of dualism (as in Christianity and Islam and Hinduism) is a beginning on the path of compassion.
But, only until you are in your teens or 20s.
Then unless you switch over to a path of compassion you get stuck in just doing what people tell you to do and not actually thinking for yourselves about what is actually important in life.
Compassion only really really works if you can debate everything that comes into your mind with others and actually win that debate with good arguments.
Here is the reason:
There is idiot compassion "Like helping a dog that has gone mad that then eats your hand or kills you".
And then there is "Right Mindful compassion that would either get a dog handler with a rope or something and putting the dog in a pen until it recovers from hydrophobia or dies there away from harming another person or animal."
Do you see the difference here?
The first person wants to help the dog out of compassion but doesn't have the skills to do this.
The second person has the skills and has learned Right mindful compassion and not only protects themselves from the rabid dog but also prevent the dog from earning karma by harming other people or animals and potentially spreading hydrophobia to thousands of other people or animals too.
This is the power of compassion in the lives of human beings around the world.
The power of Compassion is the best of human civilization itself everywhere on earth.
There are compassionate people in every religion on earth and there are compassionate people without any religion at all. This is the very essence of compassion and human civilization itself.
So, right mindful compassion is the essence of enlightenment, with or without a religion in your lives ongoing.
