The way the Republicans are dealing with Climate change is the way they are also dealing with Assault weapons. In other words they are not dealing with either of them AT ALL.
The thought of an Ostrich putting it's head in the sand while all around them goes to hell might be an apt visualization here.
The world is changing and the Republicans cannot cope with the changes and so they do nothing. It's sort of like people who refused to evacuate from the Bahamas (even though they could afford to). You hear them now saying things like "There are no police. There are no homes left. There is no water. There is no food. We are in a car because everything is destroyed. But, we don't know what to do."
This is the Republicans right now too regarding assault weapons AND Climate Change that just devastated the Bahamas to the point where everyone might have to leave the islands within a couple of months just to stay alive. This already happened to other islands last year (at least for a few months) so enough rebuilding and recovery could take place so people could actually live there again once more.
There were islands where no houses were left. No plants were left. No trees were left and no leaves of any plant were left after the hurricanes came through. This looks like some islands in the Caribbean will have this experience every year now about this time ongoing through out the rest of this century and after.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
