When we landed in Hawaii yesterday my wife and I got a surprise. The plane bounced about 10 or 15 feet into the air after landing sideways. I don't know if we blew any tires or not but it didn't feel right when the plane sort of limped along after landing. The pilot must have been a good one because a lesser pilot easily could have either run off the runway or crashed us by touching the wing. Having flown small planes myself I know a cross wind or a wind shear can be really deadly to a landing plane. The main problem is you don't want to touch your wing to the ground no matter what because your fuel is in your wing and as soon as the wing touches you get sparks and fuel could be ignited and then that's it. The second problem is alignment on the runway. When the crosswind or wind shear lands you sideways you better be really fast on the peddles to straighten out the plane in relation to the runway because no matter what the wind does to you it is important to keep your alignment with the runway so the plane can land and not run off the runway or crash.
I think even the stewards and stewardesses with kids were rethinking their careers after yesterday a little.
However, any landing you can walk away from is a good one!
