So, I would say that a yantra is a drawing that represents a prayer. In Tibetan Buddhism you also have Prayer flags that are activated by Wind so that the winds create the manifestations of the prayer. Different cultures have different ways of accomplishing things. In the end "What do you believe?" Because one way to look at life is all culture (religious and otherwise) is that all cultures are a state of hypnosis that we indoctrinate our children into.
Otherwise, we would all be like animals without languages or culture or religions. And it's debatable of course whether that would be better or worse than what we have now in all cultures both religious and otherwise worldwide.


So, what you are conditioned from babyhood to believe is often what people believe the rest of their lives.I suppose one also could say that the symbols you write a prayer with in any language also could be considered to be a Yantra in that they are also a visible symbolic drawing of a prayer as well.
