Both Mentally and physically I would say that humans are healthier now than in the 1950s

The comparison I'm making is to humans I knew growing up in the 1950s. On the one hand there were the 90 and 100 year olds I met in the 1950s mostly because of my relatives and people who went to my parents church that they were ministers of. So, of the really old ones they were amazing but usually very racist or ethnic in their thinking or usually both. People were really clannish then each to their own English, Scottish, French and European roots mostly in the 1950s. Everyone else they didn't really care about. Even going to a Foreign restaurant even a Mexican restaurant people didn't do much then unless they were in the top 10% of the population and had been to college.

But, among the people I met most didn't have many teeth if at all above age 40. It was just that most people didn't even have a high school education and were ignorant about diet, exercise and health and most people were superstitious and didn't trust people in any other religion, especially if they weren't Christian. Also, people didn't go to doctors much in the 1950s unless they were dying because people didn't trust doctors or medicine much. For example, even in my parents church people would die rather than go to a doctor in the 1950s.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that the general populace of the U.S. now mostly has some college even if it is just junior college and community college of 2 years or less. Most people now know about good diets even if they don't follow them. Many people  died from 35 to 50 from a heart attack or stroke from eating Steak and potatoes and a beer then going to sleep which eventually killed them after working really hard at their jobs. This was especially true of very strong men in the building trades and Building Contractors in general in the 1950s.

So, people today are much more neurotic and fearful in some ways but not ignorant in the ways people were then. People then would die much younger mostly because they didn't understand how to extend their lives much like people do now especially middle class and lower people without high school or college diplomas then.

A person in their 40s in the 1950s looked very much like someone in their 60s or 70s now. Life was generally much harder and getting through life without being knifed or shot at was rare if you were a man then. So, if you weren't fast enough often you were dead in the 1950s because people who are aborted now weren't then and were crazy enough to kill you in the 1950s.

So, those that were not aborted now are better cared for and not completely insane by being tortured by parents who never wanted them in the first place like life was in the 1950s. But, legal abortions weren't allowed in the U.S. until the 1970s. In the 1950s you had to go to another country to get a legal abortion and many went to Japan for this then that were rich enough to do this then.

Most people (first borns) were from date rape or worse and from shotgun weddings a lot or without a father for various reasons. Most men and women also smoked cigarettes or cigars or pipes in the 1950s too so that killed off a lot of people young then too.

Doctors would go on TV and tell people in adds that cigarettes were healthy in the 1950s too. How could people ever believe doctors like that? IT's also why people were afraid to go to hospitals then too or to doctors offices. Being molested in an doctor's office for women was always common then.
And so most women wouldn't speak of things like this because it wouldn't go well for them if they spoke of their molestations then because often no one would believe them.

Doctors and Lawyers were often treated like Gods that could get away with literally almost anything in the 1950s.

So, in the 1950s the average person was treated like an ignoramus or idiot by Doctors and Lawyers because often they were. But, the status of Doctors and Lawyers was as if they were ALIENs from another planet among us which wasn't healthy either.

Now enough people are educated to confront doctors and Lawyers which makes life healthier in many different ways now even if the average person is much more fearful and neurotic than they ever were then.

But, the one exception that terrified everyone in the 1950s was nuclear Armageddon. It was a very hopeless feeling knowing that soon it was all going to be over for the human race as a child growing up then. So, many killed themselves because they couldn't handle the pressure then.

Trump is nothing compared to nuclear Armageddon which haunted all our lives back then during the Cold War where 100 million people died from 1945 until 1990 worldwide.
