Sheltering in Place

There is a toll on all of us from "Sheltering in Place". But, dying is obviously the alternative to sheltering in place if you are more than 40 or 50 years of age. So, what is to be done? Each of us must find our way forward and it isn't easy. At this point I'm grateful not only to be retired mostly but also have more than 5 years experience regarding being retired.

For me, sheltering in place has worked fairly well. My wife is much more social than I tend to need to be and so it has been much harder for her than for me. However, how it negatively affects me is that I'm a traveler in that I prefer not to be stuck at home 365 days a year. I don't mind being here a few days to few weeks but I like to go visit relatives and friends and this is where I really notice the sheltering in place.

For example, I can't feel safe going to a movie theater (even if they were to reopen at this point). I can't feel safe going inside any restaurant (and they are now closed too again). I can, however, feel safe getting take out from any restaurant or STarbucks or Jack in the box or whatever.

But, recognizing the toll on yourself and your family is important so you can help them in whatever way might be useful to help keep them all alive and sane through all of this.

At this point it is becoming more and more like a World War II scenario combined with the Great Depression worldwide that we are presently facing.

I'm at this point mostly worried about the fall and winter and look forward actually to again be in June 2021 and July 2021 when we might see just how bad it was between now and then.

But, realizing this is a long sheltering in place and finding ways to cope with all of this for ourselves and our children and grandchildren might be the most important thing right now for all of us.

By God's Grace
