Oleander might be the single most poisonous plant to grow wild in California
There's a famous story about a group I believe that was traveling with Kit Carson even before California was a state and someone chose the wrong stick to stir their food with and it caused 5 or 6 people to die from eating that food. So, not even directly eating oleander can kill you. Imagine everyone dying just because they stirred their cooking food with a stick that was an oleander branch?
