Peaceful but smoky in the California Countryside

Yesterday likely was the clearest day in the last 4 to 5 days time. Today was a little more hazy from the smoke. I noticed smoke was starting to come over from the Trinity fires some where north of us today here in Mt. Shasta. But, places like Santa Barbara and places like maybe the SF Bay area (when the winds are right) are having a little better time of it than before. Both the River Fire and the Carmel Fire are more in control than before and more homes were burned in the Carmel fire than the River fire which does seem strange to me. But, apparently that's what happened.

373,920 Acres burned so far in LNU fire.

I looked up the LNU Fire and they say it is 55% contained but on one night it burned over 500 homes. Not sure what is happening there so here is a quote from Calfire:

Once home check:
  • The grounds for hot spots, smoldering stumps, and vegetation.
  • The roof and exterior areas for sparks or embers.
  • Attics and crawl spaces throughout your house for any hidden burning, sparks, or embers.
  • Fire damage to your home, turn off all appliances and make sure the meter is not damaged before turning on the main circuit breaker.
  • Well or pump-houses to ensure they are in proper working order.

  • Hazard Trees:
  • When returning to your home, you may have fire damaged trees on your property. Be aware of falling branches, loose limbs, burned-out stumps, holes, and unstable trees. If you are unsure about any damaged trees please flag them off and avoid the area.
