I was listening to Conan Obrien talk to John C. Reilly about Moonbase 8 that he is in on Showtime. I watched the first episode last night with my wife. Conan said he watched it with his son and they loved the comaraderie of watching this together and how appropriate it was to be watching this during Covid.
I too saw the series as kind of silly and escapist but also it reminded me a little of Space Force on Netflix as well, except this takes place in the desert around Winslow Arizona as 3 men try to get ready to start a Moonbase on the moon by living in the desert in a NASA training facility near Winslow Arizona.
If you have ever been to Winslow, Arizona I stayed in a converted hotel that still is open as far as I know which is very artsy. Also, it is a train station stop that you can stop at if you are traveling by train across the U.S. there too. I was traveling with my son from Fort Collins, Colorado back to California and I had taken the train with my wife and a friend of hers from near San Francisco near Berkeley I believe to Denver. Then my wife and her friend eventually flew back after staying at the famous Brown Derby Hotel once owned by the "unsinkable Molly Brown" of Titanic real fame. We drove back in my son's car through Winslow and before that Pueblo, Colorado and Taos New Mexico and then spent the night at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico where I had gone to my last year of High school at a private boarding school there. Then we visited the Crater in Arizona and saw the meteorite and got pictures with it and looked into the crater before I believe we headed towards Winslow and got a hotel room at the converted train station that is now a hotel and a Train Station in Winslow, Arizona. Then we went to the Grand Canyon but it was pretty cold there still that time of the year because it is at least 6000 feet at the top of the canyon. Then when we crossed into California at the Colorado River we waded in the river because it was warm there and there were many people wading there. It was good to be home to a warmer place that Arizona was that time of the year. It had been about 16 degrees Fahrenheit in Denver then one morning which is pretty cold any time of the year.
The Train ride on the Zephyr is an amazing one by the way from near Berkeley across the High Sierra mountains to Reno, Nevada and then by night (then it was) to Utah and then into Colorado where you follow the Colorado River amazingly on up into the Rockies to the continental divide and then through a really long tunnel and down the other side into Denver. Quite an Amazing and picturesque experience!
Note: It might be important to say here that the Berkeley to Denver route is a Different train route than the One through Winslow, Arizona. The one from Berkeley is headed through Reno, Nevada and Denver on it's way to Chicago. I'm not sure where the Winslow Arizona TRain is heading to but I do know it goes through Albuquerque, New Mexico because I rode it back and forth (Then the El Capitan) from there to get to Santa Fe, New mexico when I was 17 years old in private school. I took it from Glendale, California or Pasadena to Albuquerque and back several times in 1965 and 1966 when I attended high school there.
Did you mean: moonbase 8
