During the Coronavirus this seems like an appropriate saying because all of us now are in foxholes like soldiers were in World War II. It doesn't mean you ALWAYS have to believe in God either. But, not believing in God right now might end your life. This is just something to think about.
I had an amazing experience in 1985 in December with my family in Bodhgaya, India where we received as a family of 5 (me, the wife then and 3 children ages 10 to 14) the Kalachakra Tantra from the Dalai Lama along with 500,000 people mostly in native Dress from Tibet, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India Nepal and from all over the world. There were even 10,000 Westerners from places like Japan, South Korea, North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and from all over the world too.
The reason I'm bringing this up is that most of the 500,000 people there likely wouldn't say they believed in God but they did all believe in Buddhist Hierarchy which in many ways is similar to Western thinking in that there are angels that the Tibetans call Dakas (male angels) and Dakinis (female angels) and sometimes Tibetan Lamas call beautiful or divine females that they know as Dakinis here on earth as well. I watched this happen around Tibetan Lamas a lot in the U.S. and in India and Nepal in the 1980s especially.
The point of all this is that being Divine and devotional and a good person doesn't necessarily mean you believe in God at all. I am one of 25% of Buddhists worldwide who believe in God and I also believe in Jesus and Mary and Archangel Michael and all the angels. But, in some ways I found Tibetan Buddhists in Bodhgaya much more genuine than any Christians I have ever met in the U.S.
Why is this?
I'm not exactly sure but maybe it's because being a Christian here in the U.S. has financial incentive more than it does to Tibetans who are often killed by the Chinese in Tibet for being Tibetan Buddhists or starved to death or prevented from getting jobs etc. or driven from their homes or monasteries to starve to death.
The real point of all this is being spiritual and being kind to all beings starting with yourselves is likely the only way ANY of us are going to survive all this to begin with.
So, be kind to yourself and others so you might be a benefit to yourselves and all mankind.
By God's Grace
