In order not to engage anti- missile technology the Ukrainians sent up a drone to distract the Russian Crew from noticing two Neptune (Ukraine made) Ground to Sea missiles which likely (not sure about this) came a few feet above the ocean so they would have been below radar and likely undetectable to the ships sensors. The only way they might have seen them is if the Satellite feeds showed someone this in time to actually do something about them before they hit the Moskva. So, they distracted the crew of the Moskva with the drone overhead and likely used the drone to paint a target on the parts of the ship they wanted to hit which contained ammunition and extra missiles and things like this like Cannon shells for their anti-aircraft guns (a newer form of AK-AK) like were used in World wAr II. I'm Not sure whether the drone was shot down by modern day AK AK weapons or not before the 2 Neptune missiles hit the Moskva cruise missile ship.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
