During the type of crises we are entering worldwide living in a big city is not likely the best idea

When gas is 10 dollars a gallon in California (possibly by fall) you don't want to be in a big city you want instead to be growing your own food and to have well water someplace that isn't in severe drought. Solar power in your roofs might help so you can own a rechargeable electric car or hybrid too. Recently I find I'm not driving my Tundra that much because 1/2 of a tank of gas here in California now costs 80 dollars. So, with a full tank of gas running 160 dollars I think I would rather drive a higher mileage car instead until gas prices reduce. But, I'll still keep my 4 wheel drive Tundra because it literally can go anywhere in snow or mud or rain when necessary.

The point is growing your own food when gas prices are this high may not be a luxury and only a necessity worldwide about now. Otherwise, how will you afford to buy food when people are paying 10 dollars a gallon for Gas and more for diesel? They will have to pass on the costs to you as you buy food from them.
